Megaman demo is a one level Megaman classic gameplay and mechanics prototype built from the ground up for the Playdate. It was created as a fun way to create a solid foundation to make a full original concept platforming game for the Playdate, which is now in active development.

Features

  • Crystal man stage from Megaman 5 fully recreated from the ground up specifically for the play date
  • Eight unique enemies
  • One boss
  • Three swappable weapons, the standard buster, crystal shot, and bubble shot (a original weapon exclusive to this demo)

How to play

  • Dpad to move
  • A to jump
  • B to shoot
  • Down + A on the ground to  slide
  • Crank in any direction to switch between weapons

Tips

  • Take your time in the falling crystal section. They will always drop 2-4 crystals and then stop spawning for a short period of time, this is the ideal time to jump across!
  • Bubble Shot is slow moving but powerful, and also blocks most projectiles. It can also be used as a second jump when jumped on top of
  • Some enemies can only be damaged at certain times or from certain spots

Q & A

  • Why crystal man stage from Megaman 5?
Megaman 5 was the Megaman I had growing up and is by far my favourite. Crystalman stage was always my favourite level in Megaman 5 despite the difficulty of certain parts of the level.
  • Will there be more levels/content in the future?
No, instead I am working with a very talented artist to make a fully new and original game using the demos engine as a foundation.
  • It’s a kinda small isn’t it?
Yes. So I used the original sprite sizes of Megaman 5, as doubling there scale was way to big and wouldn’t fit the screen. This does result in all the characters being a bit smaller than preferred unfortunately. Any games built off this engine will have bigger characters.

this is seriously impressive! Was missing the charge shot but otherwise I’m really blown away by this!

Thanks! I mused on adding the charge shot, but since the game I plan on making off this engine won't be using one I decided to omit it for times sake

sensible choice!
